Sometimes I think back to the heyday of chillwaves, back before altbros turned into upwardly mobile contemporary conformist young professionals. It is great to know that the chillwavers are still alive. I’m not sure if they are supposed to sustain their chillwave fan bases, or ‘scale’ into youth culture.

or how about this idea for an ‘Auth’ business: start a home painting company, start a career in sales. what the fuck ever. alt is and always was fueled by corporate dollars by unscrupulous people who see a chance to take expendable income from teens and young adults looking for identity. At least ‘lamestream’ corporations don’t try and sell you this tedious narrative of individuality/creativity/authenticity. The sooner you realize this, the sooner you can move on with your life and create your own happiness in this world (via self-sufficiency). IMO!

Now that I have my ‘worthless ass’ alt college degree I think I’ll take my own advice and start a blue-collar-wave company with ‘mad integrity’ in my hometown and eventually a small town studio/bandcamp label for local kids to vibe to (via local involvement). And in case you were ‘totz wondering’ drugs actually are ‘wack as fuck’ (via fucking with your brain chemistry and outlook in an inorganic way) and ‘auth ass’ people of the future are going to look back at this half-century’s ‘vain ass posturing’ and depressing vibe and think it ‘hella sad’ that so many bright and creative ppl wasted what time they had having a mass identity crisis/feeling misunderstood/pursuing dead end ‘alt’ careers while completely discounting the lifestyles of more stable ‘lamestreamers’ just to manufacture increasingly harder to define and even more difficult to maintain alternative social currency (via rebellion) and all because some behind the curtain wizard-of-oz ass corporate entity pumped ‘mad dollars’ into selling/enabling the fever dream of some misguided sleep-deprived drug-addled prophet-wave bros/brodettes who honestly believed the this far-flung bullshit to kids who wanted it to be true. Not sure if I feel more sorry for ppl raised in conservative ass communities and ‘feel they have no place’ there or for ppl who were raised by has-been alts of past generations and don’t know anything else.

  Upon first read of this I thought ‘this guy doesn’t get it,’ but now I’m considering buying a basketball [via ‘local sports outlet’] and shooting some hoops at a park. Taking batting practice, shooting free throws, kicking a soccer ball around are all pretty auth. Chillwave was pretty auth at the time and I feel there hasn’t been a new niche carved into the alt universe since then. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen was Neon Indian at the Grog Shop in Cleveland back in early 2012 – the crowd was getting it [via ‘crowd surfing’ and ‘climbing the rafters’] it was major rowdy up in there. You could tell this was the last hurrah for many of us 21-24 year olds, we knew our time was ticking and we went for it. There is a YouTube vid of Local Joke from that show, sometimes I watch it and reminisce. But you can’t hang your hat on that forever, it won’t hold up. You got to snag a home and dope partner to do a bunch of auth shit with.
