Does the internet even influence culture?
The Millennial Biennial organized by Brad Troemel
Saturday 27 October 2012, 6-9pm // Rod Barton Gallery, London EC1
Hey. R u going to the Millenial Biennial?
Ur a ‘millenial’, aren’t u?
Ur like ‘all about urself’
and u ‘use the internet’?
Have u heard abt selfies?
They are TOTALLY symbolic of our culture/society/technological influence
We are TOTES the ME generation!
Every1 thinks they are an effing artist [via posting on Instagrams, yall!]
No1 cares abt ur gym selfie! Ur body is not art, u vain ass motherfucker.
I am so above internet participation
But I am also dependent upon it 2 ‘construct’ my ‘relevant world’
Why do ppl even care abt how the internet ‘influences’ shit?
It is just the internet.
We have always just been watching screens
Entertainment-wave Technologie is the same as it has always been
Generation is arbitrarily biased
2 believe it ‘matters’
Do u think ppl ‘tried to figure out TV’
when black and white shittie TVs
Nothing is meta
Nothing Matters. [via eBook promotion]
Did u see the TV show?
Did u read the bloggy post?
Did u see the #trend on social media/Tweetbook?
Did u go 2 see the critically acclaimed yet controversial movie with political undertones?
I will never find anything artful in any medium
Especially the internet
I will not become ‘culturally enriched’
No matter how many thinkpieces/deep_podcasts/’new forms of content’ that I consume
I will never be ‘above’ the content I consume
WTF color was the dress, yall?!?
///Nostalgia///
Remember that thing?
The tv show/pre-internet meme/nostalgic image of youth?
The internet reminded me of it.
The internet taught me that my youth was not ‘meaningful’ or ‘solitary’
Every middle class kid was forced 2 consume the same shit
and generally feel the same feelings
We all saw the thing on the internet on that day
We talked about it.
do u remember? It became part of me.
It will never leave me.
Maybe if we think about
1) the thing in front of us on the screen
2) the nostalgic experience/image from youth
3) social / media
We can unlock the secret of everything.
We can ‘figure out’ the internet
[via ‘everything is connected’]
What will help us ‘understand’?
The thinkiest piece?
A new form of content?
A new ello?
IRL experiences?
A podcast with 2 ‘smart sounding ppl’ talking abt something?
The ultimate net_art piece that goes #mainstream_viral?
The internet does not produce valuable big_data
Nothing is Connected and There isn’t any meaning 2 aggregate
from internet behavior
A generation cannot be explained
Ppl like stupid things
Maybe I’ve been at the Millenial Biennial my whole life.
“It’s not easy being a millenial.” -the New York Times dot buzz
I just want 2 understand, yall!
I want 2 understand myself!
I want 2 understand ‘the world’!
I want 2 understand ‘the social network’ irl/on the internet!
I want 2 understand the medium!
I want 2 feel auth enlightened-wave…
but maybe Nothing Matters.
Will ‘we’ [via ‘any1’] ever ‘get’ n e thing?
