Former Seapunker Molly Soda creates screencapture-wave art
I was taking a break from consuming mad auth music, and decided 2 check out some ‘art’ on the internet medium New Hive. It seems like a pretty chill digital canvas that isn’t rlly very scalable bc it is ‘too artsy fartsy’.
No Makeup by Molly Soda
via NewHive [for ‘complete’ artistic experience]
In WOKE UP LIKE THIS, Molly Soda invites the internet to watch as she attempts to follow “natural makeup” tutorial videos on YouTube. Through these performances, she deconstructs the notion of what it means for a woman to “appear natural,” including the cost of makeup used to achieve this look and how we decide what “natural” means.
Says Soda: “I bought most of the makeup I used in the videos because I wanted to see how much money it costs to look like you’re not wearing makeup. I also genuinely wanted to test the effectiveness of the videos. I tend to watch makeup tutorials as a sort of soothing, comforting experience…but have never actually attempted to enact them until now. Once I started shooting the videos, I saw how each woman’s “natural” ritual is entirely unique. We’re all trying to achieve the same look but the outcome feels unnatural and foreign on my face.”
What is the deal with screencast/screencapture-wave art? R u supposed 2 feel like ur ‘immersed’ in some internet users Macbook?
Can Macbook screencapture-wave art really ‘catch on’ since so many ppl are mobile & tablet based?
Can you ‘scale’ into post-Macbook audiences [via real ppl can’t afford them and chill on Chromebooks/WindowsVibes]?
Is the search 4 beauty on the internet an authentic female experience?
Or does it prove ‘all women are the same’ if a fallen crustie seapunker is trying 2 ‘look natural’ with makeup?
Why do women want 2 be so ‘beautiful’?
Why do women h8 other women on the internet, but also depend upon them 4 ‘product recommendations’?
Why don’t women let their skin turn 2 leather like men?
Do bros not rlly care about ‘beauty’?
Why can bros become ‘schlubs with bellies’?
Do all women want 2 feel ‘beautiful’?
Why do all women have 2 go 2 Sephora 1x/month?
Or is Ulta ‘more auth’?
Or is taking a bath in coconut water/oil the most auth?
Do ppl still think Tumblr is an ‘artistic medium’ where ‘reblogs’ matter?
Or has it gone down the shitter as an art scene post-Yahoo purchase?
Is ‘screencapturing’ as EZ as fingerpainting [via ease of medium use]?
Seen any authentic NewHives?
Does the art world ‘respect’ NewHive, or is it ‘too net art’ / trying too hard 2 be a scalable medium [via monetization]?
Does Molly Soda ‘look good bb’?
Will she ever bounce back from the seapunk bubble burst of 2k12?
Or will the bursting of the underwater seapunk bubble mean there is more oxygen in the water 4 green haired motherfuckers 2 breathe?

Feel free 2 email me more about net art / auth art that can be consumed on the internet?
