Hey I’m just hanging out on Monday, chillin at a ContempConformie coffee shop. Three girls walked in all wearing Kendra Scott ass earrings, dressed like they are going to a music festival but also a little bit ‘biz casual’ as if they ‘fit in’ [via conforming].

What’s the deal with rompers?

I have just been vibing on RHEYA. Do things get more pure than this? Dear lord.
I am not sure if the first song is by a band named Chihiro or what. So confused, but I guess that’s what makes unscaled-Soundcloud-wave feel pretty auth.

Not sure about anything about the band/person. They are from Sweden. The mp3 exists in very few places. Is vinyl very contemporary conformist in a post-UrbyOutties vinyl inventory world?

    i’m into the idea of auth but tbh i’m so over the fuzzy-buzzy post-indiebubble-wave GvB-reject sound that you’ve been displaying as “auth.” i think auth can be any genre of music bc it’s just what people make bc they want to. so it could be punk, edm, rap, even christian music could probs be auth. i just think the sound of this band is kinda boring and not really differentiable from the dozens of singles that were produced during the golden age of indie. more variety re: what could be “auth” would be cool.

      yes we need a looser definition of ‘what is auth’. something along the lines of, ‘expression, artistic or otherwise, characterized primarily by the intent to express a belief, attitude, or emotion for no other reason than to do so feels human’.

      or maybe something less ‘ghey’

      we transform auth from a negative expression {via ‘here is a set of things which are pure garbage / nauth’} to a positive expression {via ‘here are maybe some nice things, but we can’t rly know, it’s b/t the artist and Jesus / God / etc}

      we withhold comment about whether adherence to or preference for current trends and aesthetics means a thing is auth or nauth …

      it is a more agnostic stance, i concede that

      we allow for the possibility that Imagine Dragons may be authentically trying to make a comment about the post-apocalyptic world they perceive even if it is highly likely they are pandering to a sub-segment of low intelligence consumers

        i think you’re on to something. if auth is about people making sincere artistic expressions then it can’t be constrained to a certain aesthetic.

        I agree. Auth needs a more concrete, yet fluid definition, like a wikipedia entry. Subconscious/spontaneous/’in the moment’ self-expression is clearly auth to the core, but imo it’s limiting to say that only unplanned/unrehearsed activities represent the ‘spirit’ of auth.

        Likewise, there’s no reason why auth has to confined to the obscure/unknown….

        …Pink Floyd & the Daft Punks rank pretty high on the auth meter, right

          What about famous 18th century German composers? Feel like they were highly technically proficient artist but maybe they were just bojanglin’ for unknown powers that be.

          Mp3’s / P4k had yet 2 be introduced and so scalability was highly limited ‘in those days’.

          I just read that Ludvig Beethoven was featured as a festival_wave spectacle / real-life meme at the premiere of his 9th symphony — he did not even conduct the orchestra because he was totally deaf. Maybs not LVB’s fault but feels very Ashlee Simpson / Britney_bitch / Bey_Inauguration wave 2 me.

      Just had a frightening vision of former failed contemporary christian rock songstress Katy Perry deciding to ‘rebel’ against her Tidal overlords and cater to the CC crowd (a majority of whom will have just ‘settled down’) with an unabashed #christianwave album.

    tbh its just post-beach house chill vibes but i like how chill they got their sound to be.

    i also really like the break from CC theory. it was really wearing me out and the music break is like a little siesta.

    regarding nauth: it is easier for us to identify CC than it is to define auth. if we can point to CC in our lives then we can avoid those behaviors and hopefully become more in touch with the auth side of our lives. i started to skateboard/bmx and that feels pretty auth because no CCs are at skateparks and i get no love from the CCs I know for my accomplishments on the bike/board.

    i think we need to examine some CC hobbies soon. what do they do when they are not at farmers markets and flea markets?
